ABOUT

The composer Gio (Giorgi) Janiashvili incorporates into his practice music, art, performance and cinema disciplines. He has staged concerts, multimedia performances and installations internationally. He was born in Tbilisi, and received a bachelor's degree and a master’s degree in composition from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. He is a permanent resident of the U.S. and is based in New York.

Gio Janiashvili's works have been performed and exhibited at the Southbank Centre, The Institute of Contemporary Arts, Laban Theatre, Blackheath Halls and The Royal Observatory in London; The Nostitz Palace and The National Gallery in Prague; Abrons Arts Centre, The Tank, ShapeShifter Lab and Speyer Hall in New York; Georgian National Museum - Museum of Georgia, The National Gallery, Tbilisi History Museum, the National Music Centre, Marjanishvili Theatre and Tbilisi State Conservatoire in Tbilisi; Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt; Prisco Haus in Munich; ohrenhoch in Berlin; Sala Clemente in Valencia; etc. His works have featured at music, art and performance festivals in the US, UK, EU and Georgia.

He was commissioned for the 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, Frankfurter Buchmesse, Surrogate Cities Exploded!, Impossible Brilliance: The Music of Conlon Nancarrow, Festival of Time and Space Harmony of the Spheres; from a violist Rivka Golani, CoMA Voices, City Lit London, the Goethe-Institut, Trinity Laban, Polish National Institute, etc.

Gio Janiashvili is a recipient of Beatrice Taylor Scholarship, Leverhulme Trust Scholarship, Trinity Laban Scholarship, TCL Scholarship, TL Scholarship, Trinity Laban Post Graduate Bursary, Henry Wood Trust Bursary, Tsinandali Award for the multimedia concert Muffling Fog - After Martin Heidegger, Vivian Prindle Outreach Prize for the multimedia installation Sacrifice - The Static Drama. He has given seminars at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
